WHS grad earns degree from San Diego

Michael Baryla of Tracy graduated May 23 from University of San Diego. He earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations   

Baryla is a member of West High School’s Class of 2006. His parents are Elizabeth and Mark Baryla of Tracy.  

West High graduates earn degrees from Santa Barbara

West High School graduate Grant Mizuno graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara, with a Bachelor of Science degree in business economics last week.

Brett O’Hara, also a West High School alumnus, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.

West High Key Club awards

Manteca Sunrise Kiwanis Club honored West High seniors and Key Club members Carolina Angel and Nargis Mohsini with $1,000 scholarships last month.

Five other seniors — Jennifer Aduabo, Mandy Chen, Crystal Griffin, Dawon Lee and Ryan Wenceslao — joined Angel and Mohsini in earning the Kiwanis International Medallion, which they wore at graduation.

West High junior Bianca Sanchez was named the West High School Key Club Volunteer of the Year.

Graduate a Comcast scholarship winner

Dennis Coleto, a senior at West High School, received $1,000 in scholarship money from the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program.

Coleto is among one of 176 students across the state to win the scholarship, and he was also entered in a raffle to win one of two $10,000 scholarships and one of 20 netbook computers, though results of the contest weren’t available as of press time.

The ceremony for the award took place on the steps of the state Capitol in Sacramento on Thursday, June 17.

West student a national scholar

Sadaf Latifi of West High School has earned the distinction of being a National Society of High School Scholars member.

The organization recognizes high schoolers who excel in academics and “encourages members of the organization to apply their unique talents, vision and potential” to better their own lives and their communities, according to a NSHSS statement.
