Baby Saddie, who was diagnosed with a heart murmur in March, is scheduled to go to University of California, Davis, today for more testing. East of Eden still has about $1,600 to go to cover the cost of her surgery. East of Eden is a 501c(3) public charity, so all donations are tax deductible.

Contributions can be dropped off at one of the group’s Saturday adoption fairs at Petco or mailed to P.O. Box 236, Pleasanton, CA 94566. Checks should be payable to the East of Eden Rescue Saddie Fund.

• East of Eden is a nonprofit animal rescue group. Its volunteers are at Petco, 2888 Grant Line Road, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. For information, call 815-5186.

Sure they could. Because it is county funded. Like Stockton's Animal Shelter which is also county subsidized.

I learned on Friday that our animal shelter here in town, run by our police department, was designed for a city of about 25,000. We're at over 80,000 and according to Mr. Hite, who's running for city council, it's a three day wait facility. I was unhappy to hear this and want here what we have where I'm from in Rancho Cucamong down south: a true animal shelter. There, cages don't exist unless the critter is being taken of in their hospital area. They live essentially in fairly large cells. Tracy could copy that model.
