The body of a homicide victim found Monday east of Tracy has been identified as Reyes Gastelumi-Robles, 42, of Richmond.

San Joaquin County Sheriff’s office investigators are trying to unravel the mystery of how the man was killed, who did and how his body ended up near Kasson and Greenwood roads, said sheriff’s spokesman Les Garcia.

A jogger found the man’s body at 9:15 a.m. He was lying in an irrigation ditch, and drag marks from the shoulder led police to conclude he was killed elsewhere, dumped on the shoulder and dragged into the ditch.

The man was apparently beaten to death, and his head was badly injured.
