A job fair this month aims to match up high school students with local employers big and small.

The Tracy Chamber of Commerce’s Hire Me First coordinator, Nichole Hawkins, wants to attract local businesses looking to hire teenagers who are enrolled in school.

The fair April 26 at the Tracy Transit Center will be free to both students and business owners, Hawkins said.

Hire Me First is a recently revamped internship, workshop and career guidance partnership between schools, businesses and the chamber. Students don’t have to participate in Hire Me First to attend the job fair, but they should arrive dressed professionally and equipped with a resume if they have one, Hawkins said.

She said some businesses require employees to be 18 years old or older, and she encourages those places to participate, because some students are almost that age.

She said even businesses that might hire a young person to answer phones for a few hours on evenings and weekends should send someone to the fair.

“Even if they’re not a

typical employer of high school students, they’re welcome,” Hawkins said.
