School country carnival

Monticello Middle and Jefferson Elementary schools will team up to host their annual country carnival from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Jefferson Elementary School, 7500 W. Linne Road. The event, which will include games, bounce houses and bake sales. The event will end with a spaghetti dinner.

Donations needed

The Emergency Food Bank of Stockton-San Joaquin is looking for donations of 10- to 12-pound turkeys, hams and nonperishable food for its Thanksgiving basket giveaway on Nov. 23. The charity especially needs boxed stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables and canned yams for the more than 1,200 families expected to turn out that day. The food can be delivered from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays or 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Nov. 20.

Food drive

The Central Valley Community Bank is collecting donations at Tracy, Stockton and Lodi branches for its Economic Relief Food Drive, which benefits the Salvation Army. The drive lasts through the end of October.

Donations should be nonperishable food or money to help those affected by the recession, the bank said. Donations can be dropped off at three branches: 2800 W. March Lane, in Stockton; 1901 W. Kettleman Lane, Ste. 100, in Lodi; or at 60 W. 10th St., in Tracy.

Small business class

The San Joaquin Delta College Small Business Development Center will have a workshop to talk about how to start a small business at noon Oct. 8 at the Tracy Chamber of Commerce, 223 E. 10th St. The workshop costs $15.

‘Hymn-a-thon’ fundraiser

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and about 20 other congregations will have a “hymn-a-thon” fundraiser for Tracy Interfaith Ministries from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at First Presbyterian Church, 101 Berverdor Ave. Various musical groups will sing hymns all afternoon, followed by a potluck supper.

School fall carnival

The New Jerusalem Elementary School District will have its annual fall carnival from 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at New Jerusalem Elementary School, 31400 S. Koster Road. The event will include carnival games, live entertainment, live and silent auctions and a tri-tip and carnitas dinner.

E-waste recycling

The city of Tracy will team up with San Joaquin County to collect electronic junk and Styrofoam for an e-waste recycling event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Boyd Service Center, 520 Tracy Blvd.

Self-help law clinic

The San Joaquin County Superior Court’s Family Law Pro Per Clinic will have a self-help clinic from 7 to 9 p.m. the third Thursday of every month at Humphrey’s College School of Law, 6650 Inglewood Ave., in Stockton. The next clinic will be Oct. 15.

Moose haunted house

The Tracy Moose Lodge will host a Halloween haunted house at 6 p.m. Oct. 23, 24 and 30 at the lodge, 35 E. Sixth St. Cost will be $3 per person, plus at least one can of food for a local Christmas charity.
