Tracy wins pair of crosstown contests

The Tracy and West High tennis teams met this week for two days of competition as they prepared for the league season, with Tracy emerging as the victor.

The Bulldogs had team wins in both matchups, first with a 4-1 finish Wednesday at Tracy High using the San Joaquin Athletic Association format of three singles and two doubles matches, and then 6-3 the next day at West High using the Tri-City Athletic League and Sac-Joaquin Section format of six singles and three doubles matches.

Tracy begins league play Tuesday in Stockton against Franklin High, and West goes to Lodi on Wednesday to face Tokay.

Tracy 4, West 1

Tracy took two of three singles matches and both doubles matches in straight sets at Tracy High on Wednesday. In the No. 3 singles bout, West High’s Emma Bell recovered from a loss in the first set to beat Tracy’s Chiara Adamo in three, with scores of 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, in Bell’s favor.

For Tracy High, Renata Guzman beat Tiful Koul, 6-1, 6-2, and Michelle Kouda beat Jasmin Fonseca, 6-3, 6-3. In the doubles matchups, Paige Johnson and Madeline Geibig beat Angie Juan and Regina Pacheco, 6-4, 6-1; and Aubrey Boehm and Kelsey Blanc beat Ashley Vergel de Dios and Deanna Saavedra, 6-0, 6-2.

Tracy 6, West 3

In their second meeting of the week at West High, Tracy won four of six singles matches and one of three doubles matches.

A few Thursday matches went to all three sets, including the No. 1 doubles, as Tracy’s team of Rebecca Reinen and Aubrey Boehm beat West’s Ashley Vergel de Dios and Gabi Herrerra, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4. Tracy’s No. 3 doubles team of Jasmin Sioxson and Manjot Bagri beat West’s Shannel Hawkins and Glenmae Tolentino, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7).

Other singles scores in Tracy’s favor were as follows: Guzman beat Fonseca, 6-1, 6-1; Kouda beat Koul, 6-0, 6-1; Geibig beat Juan, 6-0, 6-1; and Kelsey Blanc beat Saavedra, 6-1, 6-1. In West’s favor, Bell beat Adamo, 6-0, 7-5; and Pacheco beat Johnson, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play, West’s Alison Pokorny and Ebele Obi beat Tracy’s Yufan Dong and Upi Gill, 6-1, 6-2.
