Tracy, West face off on tennis court

There are two matchups this week between the cross-town rivals Tracy and West. On Wednesday Tracy took a 4-1 win as teams played under the San Joaquin Athletic Association format, three singles and two doubles matches.

Tracy took its matches in straight sets, while in the number-three singles West High’s Emma Bell recovered from a loss in the first set to beat Tracy’s Chiara Adamo in three, with scores of 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, in Bell’s favor.

Singles scores in Tracy’s favor were: Renata Guzman beat Tiful Koul 6-1, 6-2; Michelle Kouda beat Jasmin Fonseca 6-3, 6-3. In the doubles, Paige Johnson and Madeline Geibig beat Angie Juan and Regina Pacheco 6-4, 6-1; and Aubrey Boehm and Kelsey Blanc beat Ashley Vergel de Dios and Deanna Saavedra 6-0, 6-2.

Thursday’s matches at West will be played under the six singles, three doubles format used by the Tri City Athletic League and in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. Both teams begin league play next week.

Golf

Tracy 292, Franklin 333

Tracy High’s golf team started off its San Joaquin Athletic Association season with a 292-333 win Tuesday over Franklin at Tracy Golf and Country Club. Devin Nicholson led her team with a 52 on the par-36 course and Taylor Slabaugh followed with 53. Tracy’s other scores were: Shelby Devlin 58, Emily Dellagana 62, Ana Jackson 65 and Annie Fox 70. Tracy is now 5-1 overall, with a match on Thursday at Brookside Country Club against Lincoln, second place in the SJAA last year behind Lodi.

Volleyball

Kimball vs. Liberty Ranch

Kimball’s sophomore girls took a 0-2 loss Tuesday against Liberty Ranch High of Galt, with set scores of 22-25, 21-25. The freshmen lost the first game 12-25, took a close 25-23 win, and then won the tie breaker 15-7.
