The all-stars from Visalia, this year’s host team, went 5-0 in the tournament and finished with a 9-5 win Tuesday over Northwest Bakersfield to become the state champions.
Tracy began the tournament July 16 with a 4-1 loss against Northwest Bakersfield. Tracy batters struck out 13 times and mustered only four base hits, including Damon Noe’s sixth-inning double. Noe scored when he stole home for Tracy’s only run. Kevin Saenz had two base hits, and Haiden Hall had one hit and a stolen base.
Tracy’s second game, on July 17, was a 9-1 loss to Buchanan. This time, the Buchanan infield took care of most of Tracy’s batters. But Chandlyr Metal got a base hit, and Joseph Saenz scored Tracy’s sole run when he walked to lead off the fifth inning and came around on a series of walks.
Tracy took a 14-4 win July 18 against Liberty. That game started with a five-run rally in the first inning. Mike Medonca led off for Tracy with a double and Noe, Kevin Saenz, Clayton Borges, Hall and Joseph Saenz all got base hits.
They rallied for six more in the second inning, this time with Metal, Joseph Saenz and Seth Strope all hitting doubles. Mendonca singled and Noe doubled to lead off the third, and Metal and Borges batted them in. Mike Manley singled in the fourth, came around on Mendonca’s double, his fourth base hit of the day, and scored when Kevin Saenz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
