Attorneys in the case of a former Tracy softball coach facing a felony child pornography possession charge need some more time to go over information.

Mary Ann Bird, representing James Hagelston, 41, said over the phone that she appeared in court this morning in Manteca for a few minutes. Since this hearing was just to schedule a future court date, Bird said the court allowed Hagelston to be absent.

She's still going over evidence against her client, she said.

Bird said Hagelston next hearing will be at 8:30 a.m., July 6 in Manteca. Hagelston will be there, she said.

Hagelston was arrested Feb. 17 after an Internet investigation by Tracy police. Last year, he coached a 10-and-under Tracy Express girls softball team, and his wife ran a daycare out of their home until Jan. 1.

In March, Tracy police detective Nate Cogburn said police found pornographic movies on Hagelston’s computer depicting girls younger than 10 having sex with men.

Cogburn said he discovered Hagelston using software that tracks the Internet provider address of anyone downloading of child pornography with peer-to-peer file-sharing. He was arrested, Cogburn said, because of his proximity to children.

Hagelston posted $100,000 bail in March.
