Millennium grad builds new aircraft carrier

A Tracy native and 2012 Millennium High School graduate, Seaman Page Rockwell, is serving the U.S. Navy as part of a select crew building the newest generation of aircraft carriers.

Rockwell, 20, is a yeoman aboard Pre-Commissioning Unit Gerald R. Ford, which will become aircraft carrier CVN 78 when it is commissioned in spring 2016.

Rockwell is part of the 1,000-person crew assembling the first in a new class of carrier. The Gerald R. Ford — powered by two nuclear reactors — will measure 1,092 feet long and weigh more than 100,000 tons when complete. The ship is the successor to the Navy’s Nimitz-class aircraft carriers that have been in operation for the past half-century.

Many of the systems integrated into the design are new, and Rockwell is part of the team installing, learning and training others to operate the equipment.

“I’ve learned to work better together with people,” Rockwell said. “It’s not just one person who succeeds…. We all succeed as a team.”

West grad finishes Air Force basic training

Marc Patrick Brown Jr., West High School Class of 2013, graduated from U.S. Air Force basic military training July 11 at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas.

Brown is now a member of the 17th Training Wing, stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in Texas. He is training for a career in operations intelligence.

He is the son of Jami and Marc Patrick Brown.
