William “Bill” Aceves, 86, a Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory retiree, died Friday at his home in Livermore after a stroke.

Mr. Aceves, a native of El Paso, Texas, was born July 31, 1927. He worked as a tool and die machinist and supervisor at the lab from 1953 to 1990, including at Site 300 near Tracy.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Aceves of Tracy; two sons, Randy Aceves, and his wife, Chrystal, of Livermore and William “Rusty” Aceves, and his partner, Sheila Steinberg, of Oakland; four sisters, Lupe Baca and Grace Esquivel, both of Los Angeles, and Amelda Jimenez and Nena Enriquez, both of El Paso; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Betty Lou Aceves; parents, Deonesio and Aurora Aceves; and two sisters, Aurora Castillo and Carmen Hernandez.

A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Callaghan Mortuary, 3833 East Ave., in Livermore. Visitation will be observed from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, also at the mortuary.
