The mobile app and accompanying website, launched Friday, give people information about the festival at their fingertips, including a schedule, a map, names of vendors, contests and games.
Tracy Chamber of Commerce President Sophia Valenzuela said that people with the app would be among the first to learn about changes to the Taste of the Valley lineup, from event times to the entertainers scheduled to appear.
“We can send out push notifications for gentle reminders and notifications of new entertainment,” she said. “The advantage for the app is you will get the inside scoop on what is going on.”
Visitors to the festival can also join in a scavenger hunt using the mobile app — no Wi-Fi or Internet connection needed. When people register for the scavenger hunt, Valenzuela said, the app will send them to a particular store or booth to scan a QR code, for example.
“The whole goal is to get people at the festival visiting storefronts and booths,” Valenzuela said.
Valenzuela said this is the first time a Tracy festival has had an app designed for it. It was made by CrowdTorch of San Francisco, a company that specializes in mobile apps and websites for ticketing, events and festivals.
She said the chamber may also create app promotions for other events, such as the annual downtown wine stroll.
The Taste of the Valley Art & Food Festival takes the place of the Tracy Dry Bean Festival, which ran from 1987 to 2013 in downtown Tracy.
The festival app is available for free download from the App Store for Apple devices and Google Play for Android devices. A link is also available at the festival website, http://tracychamberevents.com.
