Insurance business owner applauded

Lilia Vazquez, owner of Farmers Insurance in Tracy, has been selected as the Small Business of the Year for California Assembly District 13.

Vazquez’s office is at 3120 N. Tracy Blvd., Ste. E. In addition to running her business, he volunteers with the St. Bernard’s Parish Council, Catholic Charities, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the annual 16th of September Mexican Independence Celebration in Lincoln Park.

She was chosen for the honor by Assemblywoman Susan Talamantes Eggman, D-Stockton.

Photographers earn honors

Two photographic artists from Tracy, Linda Gulick and Cash Bryan, earned honorable mentions in the Delicato Vineyards 2014 Photography Show.

Gulick was recognized in the Animals category for a submission titled “Red Tufted Lemur.” The photo appeared in the Tracy Press on March 28 as the Tracy Camera Club’s photo of the month.

Bryan earned kudos in the People/Portrait category for a photo he called “Follow the Leader.”

The Delicato show is open to visitors through June 28 in the Delicato Tasting Room at 12001 S. Highway 99, four miles north of Manteca. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. People can vote for a favorite photo to receive the Visitors’ Choice Award, which will be presented along with other awards during a public reception that begins at 3 p.m. June 28.

Car dealers give to Tracy Boys & Girls Clubs

A recent donation by the Premier auto dealerships will cover the cost of expanding a reading intervention run by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tracy.

Tony and Deborah Pappas, the owners of the dealerships, choose a different local nonprofit each month to receive a portion of proceeds from Premier Hyundai of Tracy, Premier Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Tracy and Premier Hyundai of Oakland.

Using the donated money, the Boys & Girls Clubs will add a second-grade reading intervention class starting in September.

The Pappases bought the Tracy dealerships at 3460 and 3480 Naglee Road in January 2013.

• Accolades runs in Our Town whenever we hear about someone who has done something extraordinary and deserves kudos for it. If you have news for Accolades, send it to, or drop off a note at the Tracy Press office.
