Queens wanted for September celebration

Girls in third through 12th grades can apply to participate in a pageant at the 16th of September Celebration, sponsored by the South Side Community Organization.

The deadline to sign up is July 10.

Four titles will be awarded: The 16th of September Queen and Miss Tracy Latina contests are open to high school students, in ninth to 12th grades. Middle schoolers, grades six to eight, are eligible to become Miss Jr. Tracy Latina. And third- to fifth-graders can apply to be Little Miss Tracy Latina.

The pageant will take place during the 16th of September Mexican Independence Celebration, scheduled Sept. 13 in Lincoln Park.

South Side group starts brick fundraiser

Tracy residents are invited to leave a mark in McDonald Park by purchasing an engraved brick from the South Side Community Organization for an improvement project.

Bricks, $80, will be used to build a walkway leading to a proposed memorial monument in the park at Central Avenue and First Street. They can be engraved with a family or business name.

A maximum of 200 bricks will be sold. The last day to submit orders and payment is July 11.
