Gymnastics: West freshman second at CCS finals

Five local gymnasts competed in the Central Coast Section championships this week after they finished their Santa Clara Valley Athletic League season among the top competitors in their events.

The CCS finals were held Wednesday at Gymtowne in South San Francisco. West High freshman Taylor Rezendes placed second all-around (38.550), with second-place marks in the vault (9.525) and balance beam (9.725), and sixth-place Erika Pulliam, a freshman at Tracy High, placed sixth all-around with a first-place mark (9.875) on the uneven bars. West High freshman Alexis Rezendes placed seventh all-around (37.725).

Gymnasts qualified for sections at the SCVAL finals, also held at Gymtowne, on May 15. Alexis Rezendes was the top local competitor, finishing in a tie for second all-around with a score of 38.450, including second-place marks in the uneven bars (9.750) and the floor exercise (9.750).

Pulliam and Taylor Rezendes tied for fourth-place all-around (38.100). Pulliam placed first on the uneven bars (9.850), and Rezendes placed second on the balance beam (9.700).

Tracy High’s Shelby Hurd also advanced with her scores on the vault (8.800), uneven bars (8.600) and floor exercise (8.750), and Kimball High’s Ally Evans advanced with her score on the vault (8.700).
