West High’s varsity girls are on track to claim the Tri-City Athletic League title this week after finishing 5-0 in TCAL dual meets with a win May 8 at Stagg High in Stockton.

The Wolf Pack competed in the TCAL trials Wednesday at Edison High, and a team win at the TCAL finals today would confirm the West girls team’s league title.

West’s boys also have a chance to place first, but Stagg High went 5-0 in TCAL duals — including a win at West on May 8 that dropped the West boys’ record to 4-1 in league duals and gave Stagg the advantage for the league title.

West’s freshman-sophomore teams are both 5-0 going into the league championship, and the frosh-soph girls are shooting for their third consecutive TCAL championship.

Coach T.J. Williams noted that scores from the Stagg meet were preliminary, with the results of some events unavailable this week. He did confirm that Stagg won the varsity boys competition 70-66, and West already holds a substantial margin in the other divisions: varsity girls 89-32, freshman-sophomore girls 93-12, and freshman-sophomore boys 87-30.

West’s top athlete among the varsity girls was sophomore Ivie Eboigbodin, the winner of the 100-meter dash (12.59), the 100 hurdles (15.06) and the long jump (17-11).

Tracy vs. Chavez

Tracy High’s boys varsity track and field team has a chance to win a share of the San Joaquin Athletic Association title this week after going 4-1 in SJAA dual meets.

Tracy competed at the SJAA trials at Chavez High in Stockton on Wednesday, and will compete in the finals today. A win for the Bulldog boys would create a tie for first in the SJAA with Bear Creek, the only team to beat Tracy in their dual meet April 10.

Tracy’s boys finished their last dual meet May 8 with a 104-31 win over visiting Chavez High. Tracy athletes won 12 of the 16 events, with senior Davis Jenkins taking first in both the 110-meter hurdles (15.97) and the 300 hurdles (41.93) and junior Evan Savage winning both the 800 (2:11) and the 1,600 (5:04). Tracy also won five of the six field events.

Tracy’s varsity girls (2-3 SJAA) beat Chavez 98-36. Tracy won nine of the 16 events, including five of the six field events. Ciera Mertens won the 100 hurdles (20.41) and the long jump (13-8½).
