In Service: Marine retires after 18 years

Marine Gunnery Sgt. Esteban Peñameza will celebrate his retirement Saturday.

Peñameza attended North and Central schools, Monte Vista Middle School and Tracy and Duncan-Russell high schools before moving to Porterville in 1995. He joined the Marine Corps in 1996 and served his 18-year career with distinction. Peñameza has earned the Navy Marine Commendation Medal with Gold Star, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with Silver Star, Presidential Unit Citation ribbon and Marine Corps Drill Instructor Ribbon, among other awards.

Peñameza is married with three children.
