Lt. Jesse J. Rond, safety officer on the USS John Paul Jones in San Diego, has been awarded the Admiral Vern Clark Safety Award for fiscal year 2013 by the Navy League of the United States.
Rond received the Navy-wide award from Sean Stackley, assistant secretary of the Navy, during a ceremony April 9 at the Sea Air Space Exhibition in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes individuals for their initiative impacting the command’s overall safety program and their reduction of safety mishaps among fellow sailors.
Rond has served in the Navy for four years. By this summer, he will be stationed in Sasebo, Japan.
He graduated in 2004 from Tracy High School, where he participated in the Agricultural-Scientific and International Baccalaureate academies. He also earned a degree in mechanical engineering in 2008 from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
His parents, Debbee and Darryl Rond of Tracy, teach chemistry and math at Kimball High School.
Kimball grad trains as Marine combat engineer
U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Javier A. Tinoco is training to become a combat engineer at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
His expected graduation date is June 4.
After basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, he completed Marine combat training, including basic rifleman tactics.
Tinoco, 18, is the son of Marcelina and Jorge Aguayo of Tracy. He graduated from Kimball High School in 2013.
Airman completes basic training
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Raymond I. Osteria has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed eight weeks of training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
Osteria is the son of Trini Dominguez of Lathrop.
He graduated from West High School in 2010.
