West junior first in home SCVAL meet

Press staff report

The high school gymnastics season is underway, and Classic Gymnastics of Tracy hosted a meet April 16 with gymnasts representing Tracy, Kimball and West high schools against Lowell High of San Francisco and Half Moon Bay High.

The top gymnast at the varsity level was West High freshman Alexis Rezendez, whose first-place all-around score of 37.150 included first-place marks in the vault (9.500), uneven bars (8.600) and floor exercise (9.550).

Local teams compete in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League, part of the Central Coast Section, as there are no other schools with gymnastics teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section.

Competing at the varsity level for Kimball High were junior Ariel Escalante, sixth-place all-around (30.200), and senior Emily Torres-Gomez, eighth all-around (23.300). Tracy High senior Morgan Balaban was 10th all-around (14.950).
