A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated this week for Jose Escobar Mercado, 88, a longtime Tracy resident, who died Friday at New Hope Post Acute Care center.

A native of Pánuco, Sinaloa, Mexico, Mr. Mercado was born May 15, 1925, and settled in Tracy in 1975. He worked as a forklift driver for Triple E Produce Co. and was a parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

Mr. Mercado is survived by his wife of 32 years, Rosario M. Mercado of Tracy.

A son, Alfonso Escobar, preceded him in death.

Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., handled arrangements. Burial was in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road.

Contributions in Mr. Mercado’s name may be sent to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church Building Fund, 163 W. Eaton Ave., Tracy, CA 95376.
