Born Dec. 7, 1921, in Houston, Mo., Mr. Shelton had lived in Modesto the past 30 years. He previously lived in Tracy 20 years.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, from 1942 to 1945. Later, he worked 30 years as a cement contractor.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol D. Shelton of Tracy and Vicki Ott of Modesto; three siblings, Gerald Shelton of Oregon, Herald Shelton of Missouri and Myra Meredith of Colorado; seven grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife of 65 years, Mary Shelton, who died in 2008; and two sons, Lynn David Shelton and Bryce Everett Shelton.
Monday’s funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel at Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave. Burial will follow in Tracy Cemetery, 501 E. Schulte Road. Visitation will be observed at the mortuary before the service from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations in Mr. Shelton’s name to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356.
