Swimming: Jaguars undefeated in VOL meets

Both of Kimball High’s varsity swim teams boast undefeated 5-0 records in Valley Oak League dual meets, with their latest victories at East Union High in Manteca on Friday. 

Kimball’s girls beat East Union 121-49, winning 10 of the 11 events. Top individual performers included freshman Kamryn Lucero, who was first in both the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 20.96 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (1:04.89); Sasha Betts, winner of the 100 freestyle (58.27) and 100 breaststroke (1:18.16); and Scarlett Green, winner of the 500 freestyle (5:51.96) and 100 backstroke (1:08.72).

The Kimball boys beat East Union 124-46, claiming first place all 11 events. Top individual performers included freshman Nicholas Sichau, winner of both the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.47) and the 100 freestyle (53.96); senior Daniel Russell Cheung, winner of the 50 freestyle (24.71) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.04); and junior Seth Suzuki, winner of the 100 butterfly (57.63) and 100 backstroke (1:05.72).

West vs. Tokay

West High’s swim team lost to Tokay in the varsity boys and girls divisions Friday at West’s Pinkie Phillips Aquatics Center.

The outcome dropped the West boys’ record to 1-1 in Tri-City Athletic League dual meets and the girls’ record to 0-2.

Tokay’s boys outscored West 97-73. West sophomore Conner Waters won both the 50-yard freestyle (24.66 seconds) and the 100 breaststroke (1 minute, 8.3 seconds). Also winning their events were sophomore Bailey Brusca, 500-yard freestyle (5:58.40), and the 400 freestyle relay team of senior Emil Soler-My, sophomore Chris Manzo, senior Justin Hoang and junior Victor Lima (3:53.74).

Tokay’s girls beat West 140-23, winning every individual event except the 50 freestyle, which West senior Cassidy Waters won (26.56).

Tracy vs. Lodi

Lodi beat Tracy at both varsity levels April 3 at Tracy High, leaving the Bulldog varsity boys and girls at 1-1 in San Joaquin Athletic Association dual meets.

The Tracy varsity girls won three of 12 events as Lodi won the match 104-61. Freshman Bailey Poole won the diving event (score not available), sophomore Julia Vares won the 200-yard individual medley (2:36.25) and the 400 freestyle relay team of sophomore Monique Turgeon, junior Megan Meyers, sophomore Cortney Lanning and freshman Sasha Uskov finished first in 4:11.35.

The Lodi varsity boys won 124-41. Tracy freshman Brandon Brown won the 100 breaststroke (1:09.81), the Bulldogs’ lone victory.

Lodi also won in the freshman-sophomore girls division, 133-22.
