Baseball: Tracy wins, West loses in Friday games

The Bulldogs came up with a San Joaquin Athletic Association win on Friday, 3-1 over Chavez High, on a five-hit performance at Monte Vista Middle School. Junior Jacob George and senior Braeden Oki both doubled and sophomore Thomas Greely and seniors Dustin Dibble and Aaron Denholm singled.

Sophomore starting pitcher Brett Mansell got the win after he went five innings with three hits and no runs. Chavez scored its run in the sixth off senior reliever Brett Curtis and sophomore Noah Denoyer pitched the seventh.

Valley Christian 8, West 4

Defensive errors cost the Wolf Pack as the Vikings of Valley Christian High of Dublin rallied to the Vikings 8-4 win on Friday at West High.

The Vikings scored four runs on one hit, a walks and two errors in the first inning, and on one hit, a walk and four errors in the third. The West defense played solid after that, but the Wolf Pack bats couldn’t make up the deficit.

West senior starting pitcher Justin Watzke got the loss after he gave up seven runs, one of them earned, and four hits over three inning. Valley Christian got one hit off West senior reliever A.J. Lowe, West senior Devin Bell gave up two hits and struck out three over two innings, and junior John Barwig gave up an earned run and three hits in the seventh.

Seven base hits for the Pack included two for leadoff batter Jose Hernandez. West had three base hits in the first inning, including junior Jack Kelley’s RBI single. Junior Ryan Wagner tripled to lead off the fourth and scored on Carter Nott’s sacrifice fly, and Kelley scored on another sacrifice fly from Nott in the sixth.

Millennium 5, Stagg 4

Millennium senior Raymond DelaRosa blasted a two-run homer over the right field fence to highlight the Falcons’ three-run third inning. In all Millennium had 10 hits for the day, including three for senior Manjot Atwal and two for senior Spencer Blackwell.

Atwal also went all seven innings on the mound. He gave up nine hits and five walks, but also pitched his way out of trouble repeatedly with 12 strikeouts.

Kimball 15, Lathrop 3

The Jaguars dominated their road game at Lathrop High on Thursday with 11 base hits in the 15-3 victory. Senior Trevor Trew had three of those hits, including a bases-loaded triple in the second inning. Junior Ryan King tripled and singled, and senior Brennan Bowman and junior Nate Hendricks also had two hits each.

Trew was the winning pitcher, giving up six hits over five innings.

Antioch 3, West 2

The West and Antioch teams were tied 2-2 at the end of seven on Wednesday, March 26, in Antioch. West scored on senior Devin Bell’s RBI single in the third, and on junior Daryn Higaki’s RBI double in the fourth. Antioch scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to win it.
