Tracy High senior Josh Brakkee has chosen Simpson University as his destination for college basketball.

Brakkee said he chose Simpson, a private Christian university, through an online recruiting site and became more interested after corresponding with the Red Hawks’ head basketball coach and athletic director, Jim Holcomb. He got to know the team on a visit to the 1,200-student campus.

“The guys are really a family, and that’s the thing I was looking for. It’s a small campus, a beautiful campus,” Brakkee said.

He hasn’t decided on a major yet but is interested in nursing or business. He said that playing for the Bulldogs had taught him to enjoy hard work and a leadership role.

“I just want to develop my entire game and become a better person,” he said.

Holcomb, who visited Tracy High on Tuesday as Brakkee signed his letter of intent, said he was eager to bring the 6-foot-6 forward onto his team.

“The good thing is I like his character,” Holcomb said. “I’m looking for the right guys to come in and be a part of this program.”
