Four students from Tracy scored 100 percent on the annual Music Teachers Association of California Certificate of Merit music theory test in February.
Among 594 area students who took the test, only 15 had perfect scores.
Chilam Huyhn, a fourth-grader at Tracy Learning Center, and Lance Le, a fifth-grader at West Valley Christian Academy, took the Level 1 test. Janessa Le, a Traina School eighth-grader, was tested at Level 3, and Jharen Rivera, a Tracy High School sophomore, was tested at Level 6.
All four are students of Donna Mizuno.
Local woman to help lead countywide charity
Tracy resident Cynthia Souza has been installed as vice chairman of the board of directors for the Community Foundation of San Joaquin.
The Community Foundation announced her appointment in a February news release, which also stated that the group had awarded $670,899 across 133 grants to county nonprofit groups in 2013. Those groups included McHenry House Tracy Family Shelter and Tracy Interfaith Ministries.
Souza will serve a one-year term as vice chair.
Reyna-Hiestand named city employee of the month
Stephanie Reyna-Hiestand, management analyst II with the Tracy Department of Public Works, was named city employee of the month for February.
Reyna-Hiestand began her tenure with the city in January 2004 and was honored for her leadership abilities and wealth of knowledge about stormwater regulations. Reyna-Hiestand is a certified professional in erosion and sediment control, a qualified stormwater pollution prevention plan developer and a water conservation practitioner, grade 1.
According to a news release from the city, the mother of five was recently elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the California Stormwater Quality Association on behalf of the city.
