The city of Tracy is looking for three people from the community to serve on the Measure E Residents’ Oversight Committee and three other volunteers for the Tracy Planning Commission.

The oversight committee will meet at least once every quarter to oversee the revenue and expenses generated by local sales tax. Committee members also review an independent financial audit of city finances performed annually by an independent auditor.

The committee reports back to the City Council in an advisory capacity.

Residents appointed to the committee will serve three-year terms beginning March 2.

Prospective committee members can find application forms at the office of the city clerk, 333 Civic Center Plaza and must turn them in by 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The city also needs to fill three vacancies on the planning commission, which advises the City Council on zoning, building and planning matters.

The planning commission meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, and members are appointed to four-year terms. Members are paid $50 per meeting.

Prospective planning commissioners can get application forms at city clerk’s office in City Hall and must turn them in by 6 p.m. Feb. 24.

I hope that what has been coming out of City Hall the past 5-6 months, e.g. the current controversy concerning Mr. Churchill's use of the City credit card, the airport controversy involving Surland and other matters, do not dissuade honest folks from applying to serve on our City's boards and commissions. Now, more than ever, we need to have citizens that are honest and have integrity involved in our City's government so that the People's faith in their local government can be restored.
