Logan Staggs of Tracy won the United States Tennis Association Winter National Championship tournament Jan. 2 in the boys 18s singles bracket.

Staggs, 17, who was the No. 5 seed going into the tournament, won seven matches in a row. He won the championship match in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, over No. 2 seed Thomas Fawcett, 18, of Winnetka, Ill.

The victory qualified Staggs to participate as a wild-card entry in future USTA pro circuit events.

Staggs, a senior at Kimball High, has signed to play NCAA Division I tennis at Northwestern University in Chicago.
