Wrestling: Jaguars win Martell Invitational

Four wrestlers won gold medals and Kimball High’s wrestling team brought home a first-place trophy from the Bill Martell Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 21, at Northgate High in Walnut Creek.

Kimball coach Tyler Mullen took nine wrestlers, who outscored 30 other teams to take first place in the team scoring.

Senior Trent Nicholson pinned four opponents in a row, all in the first period, and won gold in the 160-pound weight class.

Also winning four matches in a row with pins for a gold medal was senior Robbie Delgado (113).

Junior Reese Chew (145) won gold with two pins, a technical fall and a 9-2 decision in the championship match .

Senior Matt Cooper (220) earned his gold medal with three consecutive wins, including a pin and two decisions.

Sophomore Kaiona Caspillo (106) went 5-1 and finished in third place, and sophomore Matthew Jaurique (120) went 3-2 for fifth place.
