Will Fleet, co-publisher and general manager of the Tracy Press, has been named California Newspaper Executive of the Year.

The recognition was announced to a surprised Fleet last Friday, Dec. 6, at the annual California Press Foundation meeting in San Francisco.

Members of the awards committee agreed that Fleet’s record of successfully managing newspapers of many different sizes and his community involvement in all the cities where the newspapers are published warranted his selection.

Fleet had been publisher of the Fresno Bee for McClatchy Newspapers before he and Ralph Alldredge, publisher of the Calaveras Enterprise in San Andreas, purchased the Tracy Press in November 2012.
