West Coast Soccer Club’s under-18 Kryptonite team, including Tracy players Molly Brady and Mireya Magana, finished as the runner-up in the U18 gold bracket at the weekend Surf College Cup showcase tournament.

The tournament was Friday, Nov. 29, to Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Del Mar Polo Fields in Del Mar, north of San Diego.

Kryptonite coach Troy Dayak of Tracy noted that the team was invited to compete based on its Nor Cal Premiere State Cup title victory in May, the team’s third-straight state title.

Kryptonite opened with a 3-1 win over San Diego Surf Academy, continued with a 2-0 win over Futeca Camp Elite of Guatemala and played Black Diamond Soccer Club of Utah to a 0-0 tie to qualify for the semifinals.

Kryptonite then faced local rivals Pleasanton Rage for another 0-0 tie in regulation. Kryptonite won it in a penalty kick shootout, with Magana scoring the winning shot.

Kryptonite lost 1-0 in the finals to Pacific Northwest of Washington.

Also at the Surf College Cup, Miciah Madison of Mountain House led the U16 West Coast Wild to the semifinals in the U16 super bracket. Madison scored her team’s only goals in 1-0 victories over Legends FC of Chino and Del Sol of Arizona. Wild finished the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Beach FC of Torrance.
