So far, donations of turkeys for the free dinner in the Portuguese Hall, 430 W. Ninth St., have been slow in arriving, reported Dave Warta, who coordinates the dinner with his wife, Pam.
“We need 60 turkeys in order to serve some 350 seniors at the dinner and deliver meals to 75 shut-ins,” he said, “but we’re getting worried about having enough turkeys donated.”
Frozen turkeys in the range of 10 to 12 pounds are preferred by members of the Tracy Sunrise Rotary Club who will be preparing the dinner with the help of Tracy chef Mike Bacchetti.
Individuals or businesses wanting to donate one or more turkeys can call the Wartas at 833-7330 to arrange for delivery.
The complimentary dinner, now in its 20th year, will begin at 5 p.m. Nov. 25. The menu includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, coffee and pumpkin pie for dessert.
High school students will assist the Rotary members in serving the dinners.
Reservations for the Nov. 25 dinner can be made at the Lolly Hansen Senior Center, 831-4230, or by calling the Wartas at 833-7330.
