Four Tracy girls are competing for two crowns that will be worn during the Mexican Independence Day fiesta scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14.

Competing for the combined title of Miss Tracy Latina and 16th of September queen are Marian Juarez, 17, and Savana Votaw, 15.

Winners of the two contests, based on ticket sales, will be announced at the Sept. 14 Mexican Independence Day program sponsored by the South Side Community Association in McDonald Park, Central Avenue and First Street.

Activities on Sept. 14 will begin with a 10 a.m. parade from Tracy City Hall to McDonald Park. The parade route will take bands, floats, marchers and decorated cars east on 10th Street and south on Central Avenue.

At the park, the queens will be crowned, along with the presentation of “El Grito,” a traditional program recognizing the beginning of Mexico’s independence movement on Sept. 16, 1822.

Food and craft booths, car and art shows, a handball tournament and entertainment will be ongoing until 6 p.m. Entertainers will include Nuestra Herencia Mexicana El Ballet Folklorico de Tracy, a mariachi band, the Corazon de Oro musical group and DJ XX.
