Women of faith came together from all over Northern California to share testimony of how God has worked in their lives at Share the Scoop on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Guest speaker Barbara Binns, a Tracy resident, received a standing ovation from the audience of nearly 400 women after she explained how her Christian faith had sustained her through several tragedies, including the deaths of both her parents, her siblings, her husband and the nephew she had raised as her own.

“I am a woman under construction externally,” Binns said. “I was on top of the corporate world when my world crumbled. God’s strength shows through our weakness. ... It’s not about what God wants from me; it’s what God wants for me.”

New to the sixth annual conference, held at Tracy Community Church, 1790 Sequoia Blvd., was a shopping boutique set up for the women in attendance. More than 40 businesses also donated gift cards and baskets given away during the event.

“This is my first time being at Share the Scoop,”

said Tracy resident Sandy Dawson. “I am so excited to be here. I heard about this event at church, and I’m looking to get filled.”

Modesto resident Marion Carrigan attended with her daughter and granddaughter

“I wanted to be here with my girls,” she said. “My favorite part is the women speakers and the sharing of their experiences.”

Gina Wright, public relations chairwoman for Share the Scoop, described the conference as “very uplifting and encouraging.”

“We are bringing women from all the churches together for this event,” Wright said. “The goal of this is to share the good news of what Jesus Christ can do in your life.”

Share the Scoop has taken on nonprofit status as Scoop Ministries Inc. to raise money for grants to local women in crisis. Since 2012, organizers have awarded eight grants totaling $4,897 to women in the Tracy community.

The finale on Saturday was an ice cream social. Tracy resident Donald Jones helped serve up the sweet scoops.

“My wife, Carol, and I enjoy helping out as a way to serve the Lord and our community,” Jones said. “This is a lot of fun, and I think there should be more things like this in Tracy.”

There were also 4 other amazing women from the community that should have been mentioned. They all did an awesome job.
