The wedding date is set for Nov. 30, 2013, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Tracy.
Stephen proposed to Kayla on March 9, 2013, in Kauai, Hawaii. While they were on the beach, it began to rain, and Stephen wanted a picture of them in front of a rainbow that had formed. As they posed for the photo, Stephen surprised her by dropping to one knee with a ring in his hand.
The couple met at St. Bernard’s Catholic School. Stephen was born and raised in Tracy, and Kayla moved to Tracy from Escalon at age 5.
The bride-to-be, daughter of Karen and Vince Weyant, of Tracy, and Emily and David Chaves, of Oakdale, graduated from Tracy High School in 2005 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in child development at California State University, Stanislaus. A a teacher at Primary Charter School in Tracy and a coach for Athletic Perfection, she is studying for her multiple-subjects credential at Teacher’s College of San Joaquin.
She has two siblings, Kyle Weyant, of Tracy, and Douglas Alves, of Oakdale, and is the granddaughter of Rose and the late David Figueiredo, of Tracy, and the late Maria and João Chaves.
The groom-to-be is the son of Kim and Craig Stroup,
of Tracy. He graduated from Tracy High School in 2004 and attended CSU Fresno, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. He is a staff engineer at Construction Testing Services in Pleasanton.
He has three siblings, Vince Stroup and his wife, Emily, Garret Stroup and his wife, Angie, and Jill Stroup, all of Tracy. He is the grandson of Opal and the late Lloyd Stroup and Don and Shirley Yerian, all of Tracy.
