A Tracy teacher is being held on $22 million bail following allegations that he inappropriately touched a student at Traina Elementary School.
Darrel James Golden, 59, is charged with lewd acts upon a child and continued sexual abuse of a child, both felonies, and misdemeanor child molesting, according to the San Joaquin County Jail website.
He is scheduled to be arraigned today, Tuesday, Aug. 6, in San Joaquin County Superior Court at 1:30 p.m. on the charges.
Golden is a fourth-grade teacher at Traina School, according to the Jefferson Elementary School District.
The district announced in a press release on Monday, Aug. 5, that Golden was arrested by the Tracy Police Department following an investigation lasting about eight months.
Golden was arrested at 4:14 p.m., according to the district. He entered the county jail at 7:31 p.m., the jail website states.
On Dec. 4, the Tracy Press reported that a teacher from Traina School was placed on administrative leave following accusations of inappropriate contact between that teacher and a student on Nov. 28.
Officials at JESD confirmed in Monday’s press release that Golden was the teacher removed in November.
According to California penal code, continued sexual abuse of a child is defined as when a person “over a period of time, not less than three months in duration, engages in three or more acts of substantial sexual conduct with a child under the age of 14 years.”
Letters have been sent home to parents in the district regarding Golden’s arrest, the release states.
