The Tracy Tritons swim club emerged with three individual champions and a winning relay team after the 2013 Mid-Valley Swim League championship meet Saturday, July 20, at Lathrop High School.
Karel Kouda, 16, placed first in the age 15-16 boys 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1 minute, 1.78 seconds. He also placed third in the 100 butterfly (1:02.90) and the 50 freestyle (23.74).
Lindsay Price, 12, won the 11-12 girls 50 breaststroke (35.31) and also led off the Tritons’ first-place 11-12 girls 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:56.57).
Rounding out the winning relay team were Meredith Hagler, Natalie Mangskau and Clara Ho. The same four girls placed second in the 200 medley relay (2:16.14).
Mia Rodriguez, 6, led the Tritons’ 6-and-under girls with a win in the 25 freestyle (19.57). She placed second in the 25 backstroke (24.82).
The Tritons finished fourth overall out of seven teams at the MVSL championship meet with 626 team points, behind the first-place Turlock Seadogs (1,145), second-place Ripon Sea Lions (1,044) and third-place Manteca Dolphins (870).
Win would put Babe Ruth 9U team in regional championship bracket
The Tracy Babe Ruth 9U All-Stars were 1-2 in pool play at the Pacific Southwest Cal Ripken Regional Tournament as they entered their fourth game Thursday, July 25.
The Tracy team needed a win over the team from Phoenix, Ariz., on Thursday to guarantee a spot in the single-elimination championship bracket, which begins Friday, July 26.
The local All-Stars beat Elk Grove 4-2 on Wednesday, July 24. They were defeated by Los Altos-Long Beach 8-7 on Tuesday, July 23, and lost 13-2 to Taylorville, Utah, on Monday, July 22.
The 10-team tournament was initially divided into two pools, with the top four teams from each pool moving to bracket play. Results of Thursday’s game were not available at press time.
Express 10U All Stars finish season with tournament win
The Tracy Express 10-and-under All Stars finished their summer season with a tournament win at the Slammers Sparktacular in San Ramon on Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21.
Tracy Express claimed victory with an 11-9 defeat of the Hurricanes of Vallejo in the championship game Sunday.
Earlier, they beat the Pleasant Hill Panthers 10-4 and the Kats of Sparks, Nev., 8-5.
Tracy started the tournament with a 1-2 record in pool play on Saturday, taking a 16-3 loss to Extreme Elite of Pleasant Hill, a 7-1 win over the Lady Rebels of Oakland and an 8-3 loss to Nor Cal Elite of Concord.
Team members are Mackenzie Barberis, Emily Cabral, Danielle Corell, Aaliyah Davis, Rachel Debenedetti, Paige Faaborg, Summer Gozum, Faith McCarrell, Cadence Messier, Ariana Retuta, Madison Rodriguez, and Ashley Sansoni. Coaches are Casey Barberis, Danielle Barberis, Dan Cabral and Rene Retuta.
