Julia Sawin, 8, of Tracy, a third-grader at Freiler School, brought home five trophies from the United States Twirling Association’s 55th annual Baton Twirling National Championships.

Julia won Grand Champion honors after she placed first in her age group in the solo, strut and dance-twirl

categories at the July 13-18 competition in Daytona Beach, Fla.

She placed second in the two-baton competition in her first year in that category.

Her sister Emma, 6, joined her at the event, placing fourth in the 6-and-under dance-twirl.
