John S. Knapp, 90, a Tracy native, died Monday, July 15, in Joplin, Mo., after an 18-month illness. Graveside services with military honors will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Tracy Cemetery, 501 W. Schulte Road. Visitation will be observed from 10 to 11 a.m. that same day at Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave.

Gertrude Marie Faria, 90, a lifelong Tracy resident, died July 10 in Tracy. Visitation will be observed Thursday, July 18, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave. Prayers of the rosary will begin at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, and a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. that same day at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave. Graveside services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 McCabe Road, in Gustine, where Mrs. Faria will be buried alongside her husband. Arrangements were handled by Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave.

Denelda R. Wichman, 73, died July 9 at Sutter Tracy Community Hospital. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Wichman’s name may be sent to St. Bernard’s Parish, 163 W. Eaton Ave., Tracy, CA 95376. Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., is handling arrangements.

Emily Alves, 75, of Manteca, a former Tracy resident, died July 4 at Doctors Hospital of Manteca. Graveside services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, at Tracy Cemetery, 501 W. Schulte Road, followed by a reception at Mount Oso Masonic Lodge, 1601 N. Tracy Blvd. Hotchkiss Mortuary, 5 W. Highland Ave., is handling arrangements. Contributions in Mrs. Alves’ name may be sent to German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California, P.O. Box 1930, Cupertino, CA 95105-1930; or to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Northern California Inland Chapter, 1333 Howe Ave., Ste. 113, Sacramento, CA 95825.

David Owen Ballard, 60, died July 1 in Tracy, his home of the past month, of arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., is handling arrangements.
