The Tracy Police Department is investigating a second incident at the home of Councilwoman Nancy Young — this time involving a bag of dead animals in her yard.

According to Lt. Mark Duxbury, a bag of dead rabbits was found in Young’s yard on the 1500 block of Arrigotti Lane “in the late evening” Monday, July 8.

Duxbury declined on Thursday, July 11, to provide the number of rabbits found in the bag, citing an ongoing investigation into the incident by detectives.

He wouldn’t confirm if the bag of rabbits was related to a swastika that was found in Young’s front yard on the morning of July 2.

The latest incident was reported at 12:08 a.m., according to the Tracy police log.

The log indicates that a male at the house found a large white bag with red writing on the sidewalk in front of the house. No other details were provided.

Young felt both incidents "were so brazen" because her family was home each time.

She spoke to the Tracy Press after print deadline on Thursday because she was in the hospital earlier in the day for an unrelated procedure.

"At first it was like they didn't like me and now innocent animals have been killed to send me what message," she said. "I really don't understand where this is coming from."

Since July 2, Young said she's been contacted by the NAACP and that the Tracy Association of African Americans suggested having a meeting with Tracy police Chief Gary Hampton. Young's husband is the president of the TAAA.

"I'm trying to keep my tone down because I don't want to blow things out of proportion," she said.

According to Young, the swastika was just feet from her front door. It was outlined in rocks, ranging in size from a softball to a football, which Young said were dug up from around palm trees in her front yard.

The shape of a penis was also outlined with rocks in her yard, and large stones were placed behind the rear tires of her vehicle. Her husband’s and son’s cars, also in the driveway, were untouched.

Duxbury said Tracy police officers are watching the councilwoman’s house.

“We not able to provide security 24 hours a day, but we are providing extra patrols,” he said.

Family members at Young’s house on Thursday said she was unavailable to speak because she was in the hospital and was expected to return home later that night. Her hospital stay isn’t related to the incidents at her home.

Why does she continue to go to the media if the police told her not to? After the 1st incident the Police Chief was clearly upset that she did. Also what does she have to do with unions and employment? The symbols aren't symbols one would normally associate with African Americans, if there was a burning cross then yes. So why are the NAACP and the TAAA getting involved? Last summer we a had a few incidents of being tp'ed and we installed cameras. So why after the first incident why wouldn't she install cameras?

Please don't tell me the naacp and the taaa (Tracy has a org?) Omfg! They are getting involved? Gheeesh I mean hey the don't trust the police so they go to the authority they do trust in order to pressure others to accept a reason other than the real reason why its happening. Just look at what's been happening over in Fl. Get some cameras and find out the dumb idiot(s) who are doing it and be over with it already. I'm starting to agree with they are doing it for attention for some oddball reason. Let the cops deal with it, what makes them so special anyway?

here comes the shame on you heartless comments.

Missing the point. Why do you comment in the tracypress when you hate living here?

Wait...

So if the Martin Scorsese theory of 'dead rabbits' and the Swazstica holds some sort of non-union labor employment is true then what's with the penis? Look for someone on the inside...

Go big brother? Traffic cams? If they would have installed a system after the first issue they'd know maybe who it was. Big brother isn't monitoring residential streets. Why not call out the drones over dead rabbits.

Maybe better quit acting like victims.

Yes, big brother! How do you think we caught the bombers in Boston? If it weren't for surveillance cams we wouldn't have identified them. Drones is another topic.

Are you serious? You think this is ok? What if your child picked that bag up and opened it?

Whoever did this is pretty sick in the head! Time to go big brother and review all surveillance videos and traffic cams!

Ok so IF I got a bag of dead rabbits on my property the cops would most likely call animal control and just make a note of it. If I got a swastika on my lawn they would probably laugh it off and point at skateboarders or something.

I mean so what the hell what!

Quit acting like a victim I say.

Quit acting like a victim?

Is there something wrong with your sense of right and wrong?

Why did she not call after the first incident to have video surveillance installed? It's not a money issue certainly. Go the extra mile to protect your family and catch the idiots who are amused by stupidity.

Maybe because surveillance cameras would have only incriminated her and her husband.

YoungNeighbor, no matter what you think-which may or may not be true, It still doesn't excuse the cowardly behavior the Young Family has experienced in the past. If these folks are adults, then they shouldnt hide like the cowards they are-they should confront what they don't like or stop their bs. If I were the Young family, I would put in a camera and at least rule out adults or groups. If kids are doing this, at least find out how valid of a threat they are facing, then act accordingly. If YOU have information of a criminal nature, why don't you contact the authorities or shut up. If you have something valid to say, why are you wasting your time on a news blog anyway?

July 16, 2013
Youngneighbor-ok, you got me there. What am I missing? Are you claiming you have information concerning this case? If I am misunderstanding what you said, then what is it? Are you saying these folks did this to themselves? Please make it clear to me what you said because I really don't understand.

This sure is a shame. People should just learn to mind there own business. This is likely a copy cat effect which is why Nancy Young should have not spoken to the Tracy Press and the Press should have never printed / posted the article this time or the first time. Just sad!

The city of Tracy has been trying to show businesses throughout the country that this is the place they should bring their companies. And then this happens. Not once, but twice.

What company in their right mind would agree to come here when there are people in this community still behaving in this way. Do you think people will want to come and live here in this atmosphere of hate. I don't think so.

There is no defense for this kind of acts of racism. Anyone who try's to minimize these acts of cowardice should be ashamed of themselves.

This has reached large media news stations. Who looks at the news. Company owners and law abiding citizens.

Come on Tracy. We're better than this

This is exactly why high tech companies move to Texas instead of Tracy.

If they are going to deal with KKK rednecks, they might as well go to Texas where taxes, labor, and land is cheaper.

Tracy will only attract more warehouses.

Chris Roberts,

You said, Tracy will only attract more warehouses. I saw where you were upset in the Amazon article about warehouse jobs.

Just wanted to let you know that Amazon is not just a warehouse. It is known as a fulfillment center.

She is handling this amazingly well. I hope she invests in security cameras for her home and a gun permit for protection (and I hate guns.)

I'm guessing this is political intimidation. This reeks of UNION threats/scare tactics.

Or maybe someone who did not get her vote on something, is hiring someone to do this.

Nancy young needs two things.

1)a lawyer

2) a conceal to carry permit, so she can protect herself and her family.

Maybe she pee'd off a neighbor? there are lots of rabbit carcasses laying around Schulte Ave every year. Apparently, they don't get the concept of crosswalks yet.

Amen to the Conceal Carry permit! Unfortunately they are difficult to get in San Joaquin County. Hopefully they would make an exception.

It's amazing that no one realized the significance of "Dead Rabbits". It was the symbol and name of the New York Gang from the five points. The gang fought several times against equal employment rights for African Americans.
