Supporters can’t stop until they win, according to Fiona Mayne, president of Mountain House Dog Club.
“We’ve been trying to get a dog park for close to three years,” Mayne said. “It’s something that many dog owners feel a strong need for, but also non-dog owners are supporting it.”
The Bark for Your Park contest, organized by the Tennessee-based company PetSafe, began May 1.
Residents can vote each day on the PetSafe Facebook page and at www.petsafe.net.
As of 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13, Mountain House was in first place with 15,018 vote, but Mayne said club members will push for votes until the contest closes July 26.
The community with the most votes will receive the grand prize, and three runners-up — the leading small, medium and large cities — will each get $25,000.
In 2012, Mountain House finished fourth overall and second in its population category, Mayne said.
“Last year, $100,000 wasn’t a realistic goal, but this year we have to aim high,” she said. “It’s not out of the question.”
