MANTECA — A Lathrop man accused of shooting a 17-year-old Tracy girl at her Redbridge neighborhood home on March 16 appeared for the first time in court Tuesday, April 30, on an attempted murder charge.

Angelo Alex Abila, 19, is also charged in San Joaquin County Superior Court with two counts of attempted willful murder, and assault with a firearm, discharging a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting at an inhabited building and discharging a weapon with gross negligence.

Nikki Mello was shot once in the back around 2:55 a.m. March 16 during a party at her house on the 2800 block of Redbridge Road.

The house is in the Redbridge neighborhood located on Lammers Road just south of 11th Street in western Tracy.

Abila — who is being held at San Joaquin County Jail without bail — was expected to be arraigned on charges of attempted murder and attempted willful murder on Tuesday.

However, the hearing didn’t happen and Abila remained at the jail because the additional charges were being added to his case.

He is scheduled to appear in the Manteca branch courthouse to be arraigned on all the charges at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2.

Cpl. Ricardo Hernandez of the Tracy Police Department said Abila was arrested around 10:30 a.m. on April 27 by San Joaquin County sheriff’s deputies in Lathrop during a traffic stop.

Tracy police then took custody of Abila, who officers “had been looking for” since the incident, Hernandez said.

Mello still has the bullet lodged in her left lung, according to her mother, Yvette Perez.

Her daughter continues to have nightmares about the shooting, she said during a phone interview on Tuesday.

“I’m grateful they got him, it’s been so long,” she said. “I will be there Thursday. I’m there for my daughter, period.”

Obviously she doesn't deserve to die. However, she has brought a LOT of problems onto herself and she was even on Dr. Phil! Wow! With her behavior and actions - eventually this kind of shit will be at her door step and a lot more and lot worse to come in the future if she doesn't snap out of it. I dont believe this is the Mom's fault either, we have a society at least in CA that makes parent raise their kids with one hand tied behind their back and the kids know this - as they can call the CPS and have the parents investigated anytime for physical or mental abuse. (SMH). Heres the Dr Phil Link.

You saw it too. I just didn't comment on it but saw it as well. So much ya can learn about someone's personality when ya look at thair facebook account or twitter feed. Don't know what is with th mind that brags about such thangs out in th open fer everyone ta see, which explains why I don't facebook or twitter. Somethings need ta be kept private an away frum everyone's knowledge.

Perhaps a little parental supervision in that area is a good idea as well because frum my limited perspective th girl seems ta be rather wild an out of control.

Yep, before someone says so, I an my friends did stupid stuff when we were young. My parents intervened ta get me on th right track. Th parents that didn't intervene basically went ta thair kid's funerals or visited em on visitin day at th local jail.

I've seen this girl's twitter feed, she brags about getting shot! She didn't learn her lesson, and I'm sure she doesn't have "nightmares" Too bad she didn't die, the neighborhood would be much quieter.

OMG. What kind of scum would say this about anyone. You are an adult? Obviously your parents did a poor job in raising an understanding, compasionate adult. Hope God is standing at the gate with a "do Not Enter" sign for you. The neighborhood would probably be a lot better off also if you moved out.

@I said it.

Don't you have better things to do with your time then spy on peoples Twitter, Facebook, my space?

I believe that is borderline stalking.

Get a life, blood!

Fortunate for other nearby residents didn't get a bullet in their wall or hit by a possible ricochet. How old is the daughter? Under 18?

Glamor I totally agree with you!! So many know about all these parties she throws and her mom plays the innocent victim like she has no idea what's going on, it sickens me!! Be a parent not your daughters friend and maybe none of this would have happened! Luckily nothing worse happened. The mom gets no sympathy from me at all!! You drink n smoke with your promiscuois daughter!! Everyone blames gangs for everything bad but what about these rich spoiled kids who's parents let them party smoke weed pop pills and drink and drive that's ok though right..WRONG!

So, because this kid throws a wild parties she deserves to be shot and killed by someone she didn't invite? I don't see where the mom denies any knowledge of what's going on. She has tried to get her help and even called the cops herself. This kid is 17 and there's not much you can do. I guess you are a perfect parent, with a perfect child. Good for you. I raised two kids, one responsible and law abiding, and the other wild and afraid of no consequences. Unless you have sat next to her while she "smoke and drank with her daughter" you have no right, or proof, to say such a nasty thing. All she said was that this could happen to anybody and unfortunately, in these days, it can. Is the kid out of control, Yes. Does she deserve to die because of it? You seem to think so. What a telling comment on you. Hopefully this hoodlum will spend the next 25 years in prison so he doesn't have the chance to do this to any other person because they kicked him out of a party. As bad as this situation is, hopefully it woke this girl up and she makes some changes in her life. That should be your concern...not slamming her mother.

"So, because this kid throws a wild parties she deserves to be shot and killed by someone she didn't invite?"

Ya know, I read an re-read th comments an I don't see anyone sayin she deserved ta be shot an killed by anyone.

What I did detect frum several articles on th topic is that these parties have happened many times before an it was just a matter of time before somethiang like that happened.

Fortunately th girl wasn't killed even though that's th intent of th person that shot her.

It's also fortunate that no one else got hurt.

Still, since these parties seem ta be a habit, accordin ta what we read in th press, th parents are responsible an should not have let them happen.

I understand she's 17 an that makes her a minor where her parents are responsible fer her health, welfare an safety. "Slamming" the mother seems ta be justified an people gotta right ta express thair opinions.

“I’m grateful they got him, it’s been so long,” she said. “I will be there Thursday. I’m there for my daughter, period.”

Oh?, maybe be there for her when she throws her next wild party instead of not being there next time. Things are not the same safe gatherings as they were years ago.
