Gregory David Varvell

A longtime Tracy resident and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Gregory David Varvell, 46, died from complications of multiple myeloma Friday, April 12, at his home.

Born in Mountain View on July 24, 1966, Mr. Varvell served as a Marine lance corporal from 1985 to 1987 and earned an associate degree from Las Positas College. Nicknamed “Chief,” he worked as a dive safety officer at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

He had lived in Tracy since 1992.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Tammy Varvell of Tracy; three sons, Collin, Brandon and Patrick Varvell of Tracy; a daughter-in-law, Ashely Varvell of Riverbank; mother, Esther Varvell of Riverbank; and a brother, Jeff Varvell of Riverbank.

His father, Allan Varvell, preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Greg Varvell Memorial Fund at Bank of Stockton, 1175 N. Tracy Blvd.

Greg was a wonderful man who left this world way too soon. He was a great husband, father, father-in-law, son and brother and will be painfully missed.

My heart goes out to his family during this difficult time.
