MOUNTAIN HOUSE — Proven leadership and an innovative approach to technology are among the qualities the Lammersville Unified School District school board hopes to find in a new superintendent.

Board members discussed what they want in a candidate with two associates of the La Quinta-based recruiting firm Leadership Associates during a special meeting Tuesday, March 26, at the district office, 111 S. De Anza Blvd.

The group also discussed a timeline for the recruitment process.

Candidate traits suggested by the board members reflected specific needs within the district, such as experience with the construction and development of a high school and knowledge of how to work with developers, bonds and fiscal mitigation.

Board member Matthew Balzarini said he wanted a superintendent with experience who wouldn’t mind rolling up his or her sleeves. He said Lammersville Unified was not the place for newcomers to the job to “cut their teeth.”

In regard to district challenges, board member Ben Fobert said the candidate should always be thinking about “what’s next” to stay ahead of developers, population growth and technology.

“It’s not a one-faceted job,” he said.

The search for a new leader began after a March 6 meeting during which the district superintendent, Dale Hansen, announced he will retire June 30.

Recruiter Sally Frazier told the board it should seek community input about the hire through an online survey and an April 10 community meeting with parents and school faculty and staff members.

Frazier and her associate, Phil Quon, hope to meet with the board again May 20 to present a short list of candidates.

The board agreed to have final candidate interviews in closed session June 7 and 8 at the district office.
