Police Log: Man arrested for alleged car theft

A 39-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly tried to steal a vehicle from the Tracy gas station Wednesday, March 27.

Police received a call for an attempted auto theft at 10:02 a.m. at Chevron, 2615 W. Grant Line Road.

The vehicle’s owner reportedly pulled the man out of the driver’s seat before he could drive away.

It’s unclear if the owner was pumping gas when the attempted theft allegedly occurred.

Police located the man several blocks away inside of a business, where he was arrested.

The victim positively identified him as the suspect, the log states.

Tracy police received 348 calls for service Tuesday, March 26, and Tuesday, March 27. The following is a sample of those reports.


3:04 p.m.: A 29-year-old was arrested on charges of vehicle theft and possession of stolen property. He was spotted driving his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle on Central Avenue by a mutual friend of the former couple. Police located the vehicle at a residence on Village Drive and waited until the suspect left before stopping him in the area of Schulte Road and Central Avenue. The victim responded to the scene and picked up her vehicle, which was reportedly undamaged.


8:15 a.m.: Police arrested a 36-year-old man for resisting arrest. The man allegedly locked himself in a bathroom at Starbuck’s, 1857 W. 11th St., and refused to come out. He was taken to Sutter Tracy Community Hospital for medical reasons.

10:41 a.m.: A 46-year-old was arrested outside of a business on the 2800 block of West Grant Line Road on an outstanding warrant for a probation violation in Contra Costa County. Police discovered the he was wanted while investigating a suspicious vehicle call in the area.

11:31 a.m.: Officers cited and released a 49-year-old man at CVS, 3320 N. Tracy Blvd., for shoplifting. The man allegedly tried to steal $12 in undisclosed merchandise.

12:15 p.m.: An 18-year-old student at West High, 1775 W. Lowell Drive, was charged with hit and run — a misdemeanor offense.

3:01 p.m.: Three students were arrested at Tracy High, 315 E. 11th St., on unknown charges. Their ages were listed as 15, 17 and 16 years old. Their names were redacted because they are minors.

10:21 p.m.: Police arrested a 28-year-old man who was allegedly intoxicated on the 2300 block of West Grant Line Road.
