Piles of steel and aluminum took shape as bleachers Tuesday, Feb. 26, as crews assembled visitor-side seating at the rebuilt Wayne Schneider Stadium at Tracy High School.

Anthony Continente of RGM Construction Inc., the construction manager for the stadium project, said dry weather during the past two months has helped the work stay on schedule.

Construction of the visitor-side bleachers began Monday, Feb. 25, when crews hoisted steel girders and bolted them into place to make the framework of the bleachers.

Aluminum seats will be bolted to the steel frame.

Continente said construction of the larger, taller home-side bleachers could start Friday, March 1.

Crews are also grading the earth where the football field will be installed, Continente said, perhaps as soon as Monday, March 4.

A ticket booth, a covered entryway and structures to hold emergency lighting batteries and pipes are already being built.

Continente said the last task will be striping the nine-lane all-weather track.

Construction is on schedule to be completed by June 10, he said.

The stadium was demolished in July and August and is being rebuilt using money from Measure E, a $51 million bond issue approved by voters in 2006. It was budgeted to cost $8.8 million.
