Biz Buzz: Italian, Afghan cuisine with a twist

The co-owners of N.Y. Pizza & Kabob, Faheem Roheen and Abdullah Fazli, have combined their expertise in Italian and Afghan cuisine to create a new twist for Tracy diners.

The restaurant — which opened Feb. 1 — is filled with décor reminiscent of an Afghan tea house. To accompany the festive atmosphere, diners are offered two ethnic menus to mix and match dishes for take-out or dining in.

Restaurant manager Habib Mohammadi said the eatery has something for everyone — traditional Afghani bolani (crispy turnovers) and kabobs including “chapan” (lamb), “kabuli” (filet mignon) and “chapli” (grilled beef sirloin), as well as New York-style pizzas and Italian dishes such as veal marsala and linguini with red or white clam sauce.

At 2185 N. Tracy Blvd., the restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday to Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
