Tracy Police are investigating the death of a woman who was admitted to Sutter Tracy Community Hospital last week and died early Sunday morning.
Tracy Police Capt. John Espinoza confirmed that the woman was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday, Sept. 5, for surgery. Police dispatch logs from that day say she was in the intensive care unit after some type of assault, possibly from 10 days earlier, and had suffered head trauma and other injuries. Police questioned a man after they learned of the woman’s injuries but did not arrest him.
At 3:04 a.m. Sunday, hospital staff called Tracy police to advise that the woman had died, and someone from the San Joaquin County coroner’s office was at the hospital. Police dispatch logs note that Det. Dean Hicks requested an autopsy in this case.
Espinoza said an autopsy would confirm if she was injured in an assault, and if those injuries caused her death.
