A 3-foot-long leopard shark was found in the middle of Chrisman Road in front of the Tracy defense depot on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Tracy Animal Control Services officer Brittany Pasquale was driving to work around 7:30 a.m. and heard a report on Kat Country 103 Radio of a shark found in Tracy.

A driver had spotted the shark near the Chrisman Road and Schulte Road intersection near the depot’s main entrance and sent the picture of it to the radio station, Pasquale said.

She called the Tracy Police Department, which sent officer Dan Pasquale — Brittany’s husband — to check for the shark.

He found the fish in the middle of the road on the painted center lane divider.

Brittany Pasquale and fellow animal control officer Beth Palacios went to Chrisman Road and picked up the animal, which had a white plastic bag wrapped around the tail.

“It was weird,” Pasquale said. “A first I thought there was no way there’s a shark in the road, and then when I got there I thought, ‘Dude, there’s a shark in the road.’”

Blood was still dripping from the mouth of the shark, which was taken to the Tracy Animal Shelter on Arbor Road for disposal.

Animal control supervisor Ben Miller said the shark had a hook mark near its mouth and was probably caught in San Francisco Bay, about 35 miles to the west.

“It looks like it was a catch that either fell out of a vehicle or was thrown out,” Miller said. “It must not have been that long ago, because it is still dripping blood.”

According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife website, leopard shark season is year-round, and several different leopard shark fisheries are open.

There is a three leopard shark per-day limit, and the minimum size for keeping one is 36 inches. Pasquale said no one had claimed the shark as of noon Tuesday.

Miller was not aware of any penalties for someone who might have thrown the shark in the road, except possibly for littering.

According to Miller, Tracy animal control has found a sea lion pup and a giant tortoise wandering the city in the past few years. But this was the first shark brought to the animal shelter, Miller said.

“We don’t get many sharks in the valley,” he said.

So we can get info on the shark on the road but not on the accident that closed Valpico Saturday. An accident that I heard was a fatality? In fact there is never any news reported to this site on the weekends. Would the new owners please give us our news. We need our news! Should we call Ron Burgundy?

"He found the fish in the middle of the road on the painted center lane divider."

Sounds suspicious, a deliberate ploy perhaps to fool police, as everyone knows Spots and Stripes don't go together.

Are they taking applicants for the Aquatics Center, already..?

-And finally, "We don’t get many sharks in the valley,” he said.

What will our Federal Defense Department or Home Land Security think of next? It’s a new secret weapon that fell off a truck going to the Tracy Defense Depot.

This is almost too easy to have fun with… LOL

There is something fishy going on over there at the Tracy Defense Depot and I await to hear what it is with baited breath.

This is too much fun for one man...
