The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office confirmed Saturday that the body found in the Delta-Mendota Canal on Friday was Antwaine Day, 27, of Mountain House.

Day disappeared after his car went off Interstate 205 and into the canal early in the morning Feb. 10. He was on his way to his job as a bus driver for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.

On Monday, his family was completing funeral arrangements with C.P. Bannon Mortuary Inc. in Oakland. Services are tentatively scheduled for March 10, with a quiet visitation for family and friends to be observed March 9.

In the two weeks following his disappearance, family members from around the country contacted his immediate family in Stockton and the Bay Area to offer help. His cousin, Deanna Dixon of Fremont, said the family was prepared to get sheriff’s departments in the northern San Joaquin Valley involved in the search when Day’s body was found Friday afternoon in the canal near Hansen Road.

She added that while the outcome is sad, it is also a relief after two weeks of not knowing what happened to her cousin.

“Antwaine, he will be missed,” she said. “We will never close him out of our hearts, but we are glad to have closure.”
