The eastbound off-ramp from Interstate 205 heading into western Tracy used to be 55 mph. I always felt like I was the only one ever driving that speed limit and just put up with the tailgating, cut-offs, speeding and rather frequent obscene gestures every single day coming home at the end of the workday.

But a couple weeks ago, the speed limit was dropped to 50 mph, and it feels like a world of difference. I even had someone get so mad at how “slow” I was driving that they followed me around for a while in my neighborhood. It’s obscenely dangerous and there are never any police or California Highway Patrol members with radar out there. It’s also been compounded by construction, sometimes closing one of the off-ramp’s two lanes.

Do you know who can be contacted to get the traffic either properly analyzed for appropriate speed limits or to get the police to show up for a little while and get people to pay attention to the new speed limit?  It’s not enough satisfaction to be the one who realizes we’re all getting to the red light at the same time.

Speeding happens all over town. Why limit enforcement to 11th St off ramp? I am pretty tired of people shooting past my home at 50MPH even though there is a stop sign at either end of the block. I bet Tracy could really rake in some bucks if they set a few officers to just enforcing speed limits in town. And maybe make it a lot more pleasant to live here.

Speeding seems to be a universal problem. My gripe today was on I-5 from 205 toward Stockton. A very large 18 wheeler pulling another section trailer was doing 65 in the center lane for miles and miles. Not in the course of passing another vehicle... just cruising. I passed him and set my cruise control at 60 to "encourage" him to drive closer to the speed limit and he darned near ran me off the road. CHP please control the trucks in their speeding and cruising in the No. 1 and 2 left lanes instead of in the far right lanes.

I think more accurately moral character and its exercise is a universal shortcoming.

Update: city of Tracy contacted me and informed me that the speed limit sign applies to the California DOT off-ramp. The transition to Tracy roads happens later where there's a sign and a pavement change. Apparently that means the Tracy portion of the road is officially un-posted and therefore 55mph. Time to call CA DOT and ask them to make it consistent with the city.

Oh, Sputty, let's not turn a traffic issue into a gun debate. If there's no gun to pull, then there's nobody getting shot & killed, and no lengthy court case about standing ground and self defense. You cannot convince me that adding a gun to the equation somehow makes it better.

Rob, the big rig truck in this instance was doing the number 2 left lane... cars passing it on the right side....and it just crusing along like it belonged there....

This is pretty much an every day occurance with speeding big rigs in the left lanes.
